Situated in central Europe, Croatia shares its borders with Hungary to the north-east, Slovenia to the north and north-west, Serbia and Montenegro to the east and south-east and finally Bosnia and Herzegovina to the east and south-east. Croatia boasts over 3500 miles of spectacular coastline along the Adriatic Sea with beaches that have been awarded to a blue flag standard. Although situated along the Adriatic, the climate is Mediterranean.

Croatia’s geography is defined by densely forested mountains, vividly rocky coastlines, an abundance of lakes and beautiful hills and valleys. Along its Dalmation Coast, Croatia enjoys more than 1000 reefs and islands some of which are enjoyed as both retirement locations and tourist destinations.

Declaring its independence from Yugoslavia back in 1991, Croatia is still one of Europe’s infant nations. The Croatian capital Zagreb is a modern city. It does however retain its heritage with both historic buildings and a wealth of culture..
